Welcome, welcome, sorry about the mess

So this is my blog, it's mainly about Africa and the fact that I'm going there, but it'll probably go on many a tangent before I'm through. Enjoy reading about my adventures, I know I'll enjoy having them.

Just to let you know

My mobile number has changed again because the Kenyan network doesn't work in Tanzania. My new number is +255787892309 incase you want to get in touch. I'm working on a scheme to enable people to send stuff to me, not a scheme really you just send it to the main Post Office and they'll keep it for me, but that means I have to have enough of a plan to determine what post offices I'll be passing in the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted on that one. Leaving Zanzibar tomorrow, boo hoo. Had some nice prawn curry. OK Dad, you were right all along, it is indeed lovely stuff.
Can somebody please tell me when Tom Kelly's birthday is because I don't know, just that it's some time in June.
Loving you all and missing you but wouldn't swap this for anything.

I saw some yarn in the wool shop yesterday called Zanzibar. It was very pretty, but pretty expensive, and I am only allowed to try and little knitting yet, due to hand.

Glad you are having a fabulous time, and dont worry about plans, God has plans and He will let you in on them in His good time. For one of the few times in your life you dont have to make plans to be anywhere or do anything. Savour it, it is a rare treat.

Hi Benders
Just to let you know that Matt is glad you ate shark as when we went to Blue Planet, the first thing you see is a Jaws type shark hanging over the tills where you go in, Matt took one glance and ran out screaming he then had to be carried round all day and only started to enjoy it when he found nemo.
Love you loads, hope you have loads of fun, Matt keeps talking about you and still calls you the big freak but hey ho life goes on.

Will speak soon.

Re the whole curry thing the lesson to be taken from this is always always trust your parents (especially the male one) especially about curry which is a subject I have given much time to studying, get some authentic African recipes fror me though as its a gap in my education. Glad your having a proper adventure, and keep listening to those voices in your head

Hope you got the grade you deserve

Liz Parkinson: when is the closing date for June's magazine??

Ellie
xx

At 6:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

June closing date is the 14th of May. Emailed articles to me, written articles to Jill Gourley via the magazine tray.

Currently there are no delayed cut offs for email - due to me needing extra time to get it into print format because of hand and neck injury.

Tom Kelly's birthday is June 27th... pillowcases, stockings and tights at the ready!

At 9:07 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

dare I ask WHY pillowcases, stockings and tights are at the ready. I know where you can lay your hands on a couple of lovely mens frocks if it helps. Complete with falsies. And wigs. You would need to provide you own shoes and tights tho.

This is VERY worrying

Tom I think Wendy may just go all out this year and go for a duvet cover.

hehe. photos of that could be rather interesting/worrying!

bunch of weirdo's

At 6:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes we are weirdo's but as we already know that and have accepted that i shall take it as a compliment that i am being myself!

At 7:31 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

well said Sarah, Weird can be very positive. I prefer the term crazy or eccentric, but weird is similar. I am in training to be an eccentric old lady (currently 48, not quite old) and my Latin teacher says the training is going well.

Anyway, as a 200X great granddaughter of Bagpuss what would you expect me to be except weird.

Bagpuss??? I love that cat!
Question: does anyone know the name of the children's TV show that had Dill the Dog and Parsley the Lion in it? My mind has gone blank.
And I don't know who 'anonymous' is but surely he/she learnt at school that "weirdos" shouldn't have an apostrophe in it? No?

At 10:05 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

P.S. Ah, a duvet cover; that could be a difficult one to beat...

At 10:24 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Magic Roundabout, of course!

At 12:54 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Heather it was not Magic Roundabout at all, that was Dougal the Dog and Florence and Zebedee the springy thing who said "Time for bed" at the end of each show. Dill and Parsley were in the Herbs - because the characters were all names after herbs.

As for Bagpuss, he sits on my computer desk. I am tracing my family tree, and the name I am working on mostly is Durose, and in 1284 Emacina Durose married Sir Geoffrey de Bakpuss - so I am therefore descended from Bagpuss. And Robert, Earl of Loxley aka Robin of Loxley was son of Lucy Durose, so I am related to him too. Actually, if you have seen Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, and met my daughters, then it is obvious we are related, their hair is exactly like Maid Marian's.

Tom - why would you want to beat a Duvet Cover - I prefer to beat eggs with a little milk, butter and pepper and make an omelette.

Okay, I am crazy.

Liz

Well if it's dusty, I may want to beat it like one would beat a carpet... on the other hand, it may be part of a thrilling tale of birthday competitions between Wendy and Tom that will go on until one of the two can be pronounced "the winner"...
The Herbs! That was it! I remember my Mother singing to me, "I'm Dill the dog, I'm a dog called Dill". Not that she is a dog called Dill; she just used to sing that to me.
But you're descended from Bagpuss and Robin Hood? A strange combination, but ridiculously exciting nonetheless!

At 7:42 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tom I am relieved that your mother is not a dog called Dill. Wendy had a birthday card in latin when she was 18. Doesnt compare to a duvet.

I like my heritage too. I am a family history geek. I go to meetings of other Duroses, 100 or so of us and we talk about our ancestors and argue over the origin of the surname. This is what happens when you get old like me. They dont know about Bagpuss yet, I will tell them that at the next meeting, which I must check on the date for.

Wendy, I am assuming you are okay and no news is good news, there was a boat incident on Lake Victoria, with people drowned. I was very worried and praying hard, but the FO always say if there are any brits involved, and they havent said, so I am guessing God was steering you away from there that day. Thank you God.

Take care Wendy, and I hope you arestill having fun, and seeing God work in your life.

I did wonder after I posted it. Russian's mixing my head up! I also remember my mum singing the 'Dill the dog' song.

At 4:06 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Any langage mixes your head up heather. You have god reason to get things wrong with the amount your doing!

At 5:18 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No, the Herbs was quite a few years before our time, little Sarah, though I did become somewhat addicted to the repeats I saw of it a few months ago. Wonderful programme! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
But where is our Wendy? Probably having too much fun to write on here! My guess is cocktails at dusk with genuine African entertainment and a couple of scones...

At 5:48 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

My guess is she isnt near internet access!

Heather, didnt know you were learning Russian, presumably this is at uni which I think in your case is Durham. Lynne is also learning Russian, wants to go out there as missionary/evangelist - she went with Agape for 6 weeks when she finished uni. But aftermath of glandular fever put paid to her going just yet for a longer period.

I am guessing you are Heather from CHMC by the way.

I like the rugrats

Liz

At 6:01 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's me indeed! I've done German, Spanish and Russian this year simply because I could. 1st year's ideal for that - it doesn't count in the end and you can drop things! My plan is to drop Russian because my course is very grammar heavy (4 out of 6 modules - eek) and take up some linguisticsy ones. So I won't be doing it for much longer! I would love to go there though, but not just yet. Need to save for a visa first!

At 1:11 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Heather from CHMC? Would that be Heather Tyrer by any chance? Just wondering...

At 1:35 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

which Tom are you - Bart or Kelly? It is for heather to say which heather she is tho. Linguistics is fun. I hate grammar too. But God must love it, he invented so much of it. Lynne went with a group called Agape, part of Campus Crusade for Christ, while she was at uni - well actually, just after she finished, but you dont have to have finished. But she had to raise about £1000 to go. So a package holiday might be cheaper. Or speak to Jill Gourley at CHMC, she is on the trust board of an orphanage out there

Ooh... Yeah, my friend here is going to Siberia with Agape this summer. And, Tom, yes I'm Heather Tyrer. You're Tom who I knew from CHADS, right?

At 2:57 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

wow, people know each other. it's a small world except where do i fit in?

At 3:31 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i'm sure we'll find room for you, despite your size.

At 6:13 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, I'm Tom Kelly who Heather used to know at CHADS... I much prefer grammar to linguistics, though, but perhaps because my grammar tutor is much more interesting than my linguistics lecturer... and linguistics is so, well, science-y... it makes Tom have a sad face :(

I've just realised what complete and utter rubbish I'm talking, but who cares? I'm smiling :)

At 6:34 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sarah B you fit in anywhere - you too have a special language that you speak - do you have to worry about grammar in BSL?

Tom, how can a grammar tutor be interesting, how can grammar be interesting? An accusative is an accusative is an accusative. Okay a deponent verb is looks passive but is active, but even that is a bit boring once you know which they are.

Or is the tutor the kind the guys all like? YOung, pretty etc

I am old and sceptical, dont know how to do a scaptical face, perhaps :-~

Science is fun, my degree is in psychology, perhaps that is why I enjoy linguistics. and my PhD is going to be in Medieval History, specifically looking at mental health in Medieval times. Which is kind of sciency in a historical way

Liz - also talking rubbish but is 2.30 am

At 2:34 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am so confused

Ellie

At 5:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

you are not alone

At 5:13 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yep BSL has lovely grammar!!! Not that i know much of it like is hould for various reasons that mainly aren't my fault for once!! I'm almost wishing that i had a seperate grammar lesson for signing as well as all the vocb. It might actually make life alot easier.

Liz, i don't fit in anywhere as there people who do not get on with me. Thats the same for anyone!

At 10:01 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sarah, that is true, there are always people who dont like you and groups you wouldnt fit in, they are generally groups you wouldnt want to join with. There are people who dont like me, I know that, and people who are scared of me, but I dont know why they are. Although very close friends tell me I come across as very confident. But I am not inside. I pretend.

And I like going on courses so I know lots of things so people think I am a lot cleverer than I actually am

Wendy - there is a Latin trip Hadrians Wall, 5th or 6th of July, price not known, if you are interested. I am sad but cant go, my neck isnt up to it and it will be a long day, leaving college at 9.00 and getting to first stop at 11.00, then leaving that area for home at 7ish in the evening.

just kidding :-p

I am not scary, and I may be big but I am not scary. Unless I am your boss and you behave really badly - and even then I am nice about it, when I have sacked people I have been gentle over it
