Are there any other Wendy's here?
John (pastoer of the chirch we visited on Sunday): Would Wendy just like to come up and say hello?
Wendy (looks around in the futile hope that there is another one of her somewhere at the back): erm...hello....
I'm not the most articulated person in the world (that was done on purpose before you all start correcting me). Though being from Manchester helps in conversation, we have a football team that a few people seem to have heard of.
Yesterday I decided to start taking my Swahili more seriously, at firsdt I thought it'd be quite easy because they don't mess around with masculine and feminine words-everything (including people) is just it. But then I realised that to compensate for this they have 4 different noun classes, you can tell which class a word belongs to by what letter it starts with-however in Swahili all the endings (-ing,-er,-ed etc) are put on to the beginning of the word (na-, ki,-vi-, etc) so it's really hard to know where the ending ends and the word begins and therefore what class it is. Waaa
Staying on the theme of languages in about 30 minitues I'm off to teach my first English class which ought to be interesting*. Then I have a baptism class, Samuel has decided I need to be baptised properly*, I'll make sure they take photos.
Hope you all got nice surprises in the post, and enjoy pancake day tomorrow-I'm going to show them how to make proper pancakes as opposed to silly thick nasty ones.
People need to tell me what to give up for lent (or take up for that matter).

being baptised in the lake sounds wonderful! Let us know when and I will make sure you get prayed for at CHMC about it, it is a very special thing. I am not giving up anything specially for Lent, but after the Cafe Church on Lent, I am going to try and not only hand over more stuff to God, I am going to try and leave it with him instead of grabbing it back! I am going to do this by concentrating on the Serenity Prayer, God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Seeing as I have a sort of "I want to change the world" complex, the last bit is the hardest for me!
YOu could take up extra Swahili. sounds fun - I am doing really badly in Latin now, the Medieval stuff is so hard, and Anthony is so patient with me! ANd Lynne has joined the Russian corner.
Advance warning, if you remember can you pray for me next Monday, I am having my op and I am scared because they have to actually cut my wrist. Not nice. I am in overnight.
ANd dont forget to let us know what you are being baptised.
Still praying for you

WENDY! before you ask, no i haven't had sugar today.food yes, sugar no. Ooooh, i hope the english classn goes well. Do let us know how it's going. No way could i teach english but another language, maybe!!! Baptism is cool. Thats probably the wrong way of putting that. Yeah agree with liz tat it is a really special thing and i certainly won't forget mine. Being drowned in the lake is more realistic to when jesus was baptised compred to a wooden thing filled with cold water that ws supposed to be warm ish that i had. I defintly think you got the better deal there!
Languages are hard but fun. Keep gong with it and you'll get somewhere even if it is slowly.Having sid that you've got the advantage of being around people who are speaking it so you'llbe just fine.
Love little sarah x x x
p.s. i'll be praying for you liz! And you wendy. I couldn't forget you!!!
thanks Sarah! Oh and baptism probably is cool, I dont think they'll heat the lake frist Wendy!
Have you decided what you are doing as your second subject yet Sarah - I think Anglo Saxon would be good then you can teach it to me! (grin) Uclan is Helen's insurance choice, if she doesnt get the grades for NOTTS, she is doing English
Liz
No liz i haven't decided. i'm between two-BA sign language and a course in councelling and phycotherapy (no sure i've spelt that right but hey) Glad to know that other peole do actually want to go to that ni even if it is only there insurance choice. One of my friends might be going but she still hasn't made up her mind. I'll have to wait and see.

Hi Wendy just a couple of small points babe,
1) We are all missing you especially Matt who likes to look for you first thing in a morning. Thats the other 7 O'clock in the 24 hours they call a day.
2) Correct me if Im wronmg but if they heat up the lake for you wont the resident alligators get a little cross.
OK I admit Im missing you to, although the house is a lot tidier since you went.
Dad
Yes Wendy I was thrilled with the surprise in the post. What a treat to come home to and I thought at first you had painted it yourself. That is what I will be watching for next time!A lion maybe Or a flamingo.
We could send you a box of shredded wheat but then it might be cheaper to send you the money even at £4 a box. How about one shredded wheat to tantalise your taste buds.I'v run out of space......... I thought it would not let me say more. I am glad to know the answer to the letters too.
Take care and lots of love.
PS It is really cold here.
To Sarah - sorry to hijack your blog Wendy, but this is important. Neil went to Uclan, many years ago when it Harris College! It is a nice place w ith a good reputation. There is a big shortage of people who can counsel and provide pyschotherapy in BSL. I would imagine there is an even BIGGER shortage of people who can counsel people from a Christian point of view in BSL - recognising the importance of their faith in the decisions people make which non-Christian counsellors often dont grasp!!!
I know a family with 2 deaf parents and 2 hearing children, their suffered a tragedy - sudden death of the father, and the police couldnt find a suitable translator in BSL to tell his wife, and so the eldest daughter, then about 13, had to sign the information to her mum and little sister. And waiting for counselling for the mum was apparently a hugely long time.
Thanks for the loan of your blog Wendy! I will tell Anthony about your Swahili tomorrow, hopefully he will be so fascinated he wont notice I didnt do my homework

Hi Wendy. You could give up living in Britain for Lent! or shopping in Stockport, or watching Eastenders. You could take up being nice to people and being a wonderful person (oh, you already qualify). I'm so proud to be your
Mum!
Hope all goes well with you Liz.
Love to you always Wendy.
Mum xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS Sue Colbridge was asking after you last night and sends her love to you.
Sorry wendy, i can't come up with anything for you to give up forlent.Plus me telling you wouldn't be anygood, you have to want to do it so i'm afraid you'll have to keep thinking. Although, ave you ever tryed saying 'Good Morning' to jesus everyday. It's hard but helps focus you on god. It's also hard to actually mean good moning instead of just sayig it without meaning it. I mean, once ou have just got up, do you always view he day ahead as a good thing or do you think well i'vegot this and that and i do't like this etc... Anyway you get my point. Try it! I find it really helpful despite the fact i regularly forget and half the time i doonly say morning instead of good morning but all the same.
